Picosecond lasers (like our Karma PicoSure) are the newer standard, delivering energy in trillionths of a second. These ultra-short bursts create a “photomechanical” effect, essentially “shattering” the ink into much smaller, dust-like particles that are easier for the body to clear.
Removing a tattoo is rarely a “one-and-done” procedure. Most people require anywhere from 6 to 12 sessions, spaced at least 6 to 8 weeks apart to allow the skin to heal and the body to process the ink. The sensation is often described as a rubber band snapping against the skin. To manage this, our estheticians apply a topical numbing cream. Because our bodies can only purge and heal so much at one time, the size of the treatment area depends on how packed the ink is into the skin. For example, a blackout tattoo can only be removed one-palm-size at a time, but much larger areas can be worked at one time for faded, older tattoos, or illustrations with lighter shading or only linework.
